On the evening of March 5, 2015, at the annual Academy Prep Evening of Champions event, the attorneys at Ogden Sullivan were honored with the Partner of Excellence Award for their years of service and volunteering for Academy Prep. All proceeds from the Evening of Champions event benefited the Academy Prep Student Scholarship Fund. Accepting this honor on behalf of the firm were partners Timon Sullivan and Randy Ogden. Since 2007, the attorneys at Ogden Sullivan have put on a mock trial and mediation program for the 8th grade students at Academy Prep. These programs, which run over approximately 12 weeks throughout the year, allow the Academy Prep eighth graders to participate in the litigation process, from a civil mediation of a personal injury claim to a criminal trial. Students use and learn about the concepts of compromise, consensus building, risk analysis and advocacy. Additionally, during this time, Ogden Sullivan has also put on a Judicial Roundtable for students at Academy Prep. State and Federal Judges discuss with students how the court systems work and engage in a thoughtful question and answer session with the students.
Academy Prep is a non-profit school for students from traditionally disadvantaged backgrounds in the fifth to eighth grade which operates 11 hours a day, 6 days a week, 11 months through the year. The quality of education given to the students at Academy Prep is one often reserved for students at elite boarding schools and has remarkable results: More than 90% of Academy Prep students graduate high school, a rate that is actually higher than Florida?s high school graduation rate for all students of 80%. It is an outstanding asset to our local community, and Ogden Sullivan is proud to partner with this school and invest in its students and our community.
